AI Aerobics
Moving with Machines

Warm up. Stretch it out.
And get ready to move—just like a machine.

In this interactive experiment called ‘AI Aerobics’, a computer will instruct you to perform a series of movements. However: these aren’t the stretches and flexes you’re used to. Instead, the poses you’ll be asked to demonstrate have been generated by a reinforcement learning algorithm in a simulated environment. That means our machine learned how to move by following its own logic and rules—isolated from practically any human influence or bias.

With AI Aerobics, we want to cultivate curiosity around the ways machine learning and artificial intelligence might enhance or inform our human potential without compromising our autonomy. Should we take some cues from the way computers learn? Try out the experiment to decide for yourself.
